Humana: How We Created a Silver Bullet Dashboard and Improved Compliance and Efficiency

Have you ever walked into a department that looked like a spaghetti bowl of data challenges? A year ago, thousands of our compliance metrics were locked away in clunky management systems and inundated by hundreds of excel documents being passed around. All of this changed when we embraced data science solutions, modernized data management systems, and built a self-service reporting experience using Tableau products. In less than a year, we saw a double-digit increase in operational efficiency as thousands of compelling metric visualizations are now available within three clicks of a mouse, with the entire experience built around a website-like look-and-feel that enables thousands of employees to get to compliance information, from the highest to lowest level details. Whoever says you can't design a dashboard for every type of user is right, but you can design a navigational experience consisting of many different types of dashboards that solves for all levels of your company.

Memorial Hermann: Using Tableau to Identify Insights that can Provide Real Change for Healthcare Providers

The healthcare industry has seen the largest increase in nursing hospital overtime since 1990 which is impacting turnover rates and potentially resulting in patient-safety concerns. It's no surprise that overall labor expenses are on the rise, particularly nursing overtime costs, To turn this unsustainable pattern around, we formed an interdisciplinary team to identify solutions and used Tableau to bring numerous, disparate data systems together to make it easier to see correlations between contributing factors such as vacancies, contract agency spend and scheduling system use. Come learn about our findings and how we are facilitating real change while also empowering CFOs, CNOs, HR Directors, Nursing Managers and more to tackle increasing labor expenses and rising overtime costs.

Stanford Health Care: Advancing Patient Experience with Tableau

Stanford Health Care employs continuous improvement to all facets of care delivery, including patient experience. The Patient Experience Analytics and Reporting (PEAR) team manages the entire patient feedback loop, from managing survey administration, to the circulation of patient feedback to staff and leaders. For many years, data in their static reports provided only cursory information about what could be done to improve the patient experience, stagnating improvement in specific service lines, such as primary care. In April 2019, the PEAR team was asked to investigate how improve this. In this session, we will describe the process used to create a dynamic patient experience dashboard for the primary care service line using Tableau. We will also share some of the strategies used to help ensure the needs of clinical providers and operational leaders were incorporated into the design.

UnitedHealth Group: Delivering Statistical Controls and Performance Insights at Scale

With the exponential rate at which firms acquire and store data today, it can become all too easy to get lost in data. Typically, we see operations aggregate that data and measure performance against a set of targets. Doing so at scale can be challenging and we often see traffic light dashboards simplifying past results without looking for signals in the data serving as precursors to future performance. In this session you’ll learn about statistical process controls (SPC), how to visualize SPC charts in Tableau, how to identify and highlight signals, and how to bring it all together in a simple, easy to understand dashboard, all while respecting existing business targets and support data-driven decision making.

User Group: Healthcare

Do you enjoy data? Check. How about Tableau? Check. Are you interested in healthcare? Check. Do you want to improve your visualization skills? Absolutely. Lindsay Betzendahl, the founder of #ProjectHealthViz, will share how you can get involved in a community visualization project aimed to help you practice your Tableau skills with healthcare data. You will learn how #ProjectHealthViz started, how participating can benefit your career, and how you can join a community of passionate healthcare data geeks! You’ll then have the opportunity to learn how HealthDataViz tackled the common challenge of making data available, beautiful and informative by revamping NYC's public health data website. Every month, more than 1,000 people visit NYC Epiquery (Epidemiology + Query) to access public health survey, vital records and surveillance data, and related information. However, the site was outdated, fragmented, and difficult to use. They used persona development, guided analytics, best practices of data visualization and Tableau to completely transform the data application. They made the most of Tableau by employing action filters, parameters, Javascript API and R-integration to create functionality such as a statistical testing tool and links to related resources. The result is a seamless, easy-to-use and high-impact application with custom reports customized for the novice to the advanced user. In addition to revamping the Epiquery website, we also redesigned the Community Health Profiles, resulting in interactive, print-friendly and engaging overviews of each community in New York City.
